Busted! Left Behind The Kids Jerry B Jenkins Tim LaHaye Chris Fabry Books Reviews

I am a parent, a homeschooler, a conservative, and a committed Christian. I say all this up front so that my criticism of this series will be understood.
As the series continues, so does the level of my reservation. It appears to this parent that the authors are increasingly engaging in the trivialization of an extremely serious subject; namely leading souls to Christ. Whether one accepts pre-tribulation, pre-millenial dispensationalism or not (and I do not) the End
of Time is not going to be a time of comic-book adventure. It will be deadly serious -- and the longer this series progresses, the more I wonder if this is properly realized.
To reiterate my position
I believe in presenting the truth to my children to the best of my ability -- and I well know that I am a flawed and imperfect vessel.
This means the truth of the Bible -- not the opinion of an extreme minority, even if that minority has achieved a certain millenial popularity.
This means the truth of Church History -- warts and all. When Church History is honestly portrayed, one quickly sees that it is not 2000 years of "Bible-believers vs. Roman Catholics" but rather 2000 years of good and evil, truth and error, advances and retreats -- but always pressing onward toward the Kingdom.
This means the truth of Secular History -- and understanding that for most of the last 2000 years, there was no distinction between Church and Secular History!
This means the truth of what comprises good literature vs. poor literature -- and this series increasingly does not represent the quality of material I want my children to handle. I realize that all children learn differently, especially when it comes to reading. This being said, I want my children to stretch beyond their preconceived limitations. The quality of these books certainly does not stretch the limits of what the 9-12 age-group is capable of.
Truth is frequently painful and sometimes scary.
HOWEVER, I do NOT believe in deliberately frightening children into accepting or rejecting a particular opinion or viewpoint. It appears to this parent that such religious "scare tactics" are precisely what is being engaged in with these books.
My children know about heaven and hell. They know what it requires to end up in either of those destinations. They understand that hell is a pretty scary place. But I choose to teach them in a positive, rather than in a negative vein. Being "scared straight" is imperfect contrition. Granted, it beats no contrition at all -- but it results in fear rather than love.
This is what this series appears to accomplish salvation through fear, rather than salvation through acceptance of the love of the God of Love. (Not to mention a disregard for the legitimacy of other Christian traditions.)
Parents, pay attention to what your children read. Teach them about the love of God, not only through your words but through the example of your life. But don't try to frighten them into the Kingdom.
"Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."
It's hard to say much about this book without giving away anything important. Picking up where book 6 left off, the four kids are right in the thick of the trouble because of their determination to bring the truth of Jesus Christ to... well, as far as they can. However, things are getting riskier every day with the Global Community and all those who oppose Christianity. In this captivating book it is important to predict who is trustworthy with so many people who are working hard to prevent the distribution of "The Underground" and find evidence against the kids behind it. There are also more developments in Israel fulfilling Biblical prophesies, which lead to a quick trip to Israel for Judd. Then there's Vicki, whose approach to the dangerous and difficult situations she numerously ends up in surprised me and added to the suspense. This book was totally different than I expected it would be; the dangers are obviously increasing, but the incredible faith and determination of the kids allow them to take the risks- which lead to suprising endings. This thrilling sequel is astonishingly real and something you don't want to miss!
This seventh installment in the Left Behind Kids series finds Vicki and Judd attempting escape as school authorities pursue them relentlessly. At the end of book 6, Vicki was the one caught by the authorities. At the beginning of this seventh book, Vicki makes one last desperate attempt to escape and Judd Thompson Jr, the leader of the Young Tribulation Force, helps her in her attempt. However Vicki is captured and taken to a juvenile detention center, where she finds herself facing persecution.
Meanwhile, the other three post-Rapture teens face more troubles, along with two new friends, John and Mark. As they struggle to spread the Truth behind the global vanishings and warn people of the coming global judgments foretold in Scripture, the noose tightens at Nicolae High and the kids find themselves facing the pressure that threatens to keep the kids from sticking together as a team. They also seek to find out who the insider at the school who is helping them is. In the midst of their troubles, Old Testament prophecies are coming true all around them. Nicolae Carpathia, the one who the kids found to be the Antichrist back in book 4, signs a peace treaty with the nation of Israel, thus signalling the beginning of the seven most chaotic and perilous years mankind will ever see. By the time book 7 comes to its end, Carpathia has established a global regime and gains total control of Earth, decieving the people of the world into believing that he is the world savior, thus fulfilling Revelation chapter 61-2. Will the kids stay alive?
Busted is without a doubt one of the best installments in the series. It kept me on the edge of my seat the whole way through, and it ends with a cliffhanger, as do all the books so far, and makes you eager to read the next book in this series about a group of post-Rapture Christians who struggle to survive in a quickly-dying world. 5 stars.
I am an adult and I love this series. Each book introduces a new kid that needs Jesus. A kid learns that all of us need Jesus.
My son 11 year old son likes the original Left Behind movies. He wanted to know how the books in the kids series would be so I let him pick one to read. He picked this one and really likes it. Now he wants me to buy more. Looks like these will be on his Christmas list this year.
love it
