Gabrielle Bridge has many goals in life. The most important are to finish school, get a masters in physics, win a Noble Prize and then eventually think about getting a boyfriend. She’s not like other people because she has different personalities that help her with issues, one named “Brie” the logical one, “Elle” who yearns for passion, and “Gabe” the referee. They all communicate and are voices that put in input when Gabrielle is either stuck with something or starts to lose her focus. Home life is rough, she lives with her alcoholic mother after her father cheated on her, left, and never sends any child support, so she has to work at a grocery store to pay for school. Gabrielle isn’t too interested in getting a boyfriend and being hurt like her mother. But that doesn’t stop her from liking her nerdy but cute classmate Toby.
She tries to recruit Toby into being partners with her for a project but during class one day she accidently makes a mean comment about one of the students, “Dumb Bill” (William), and the teacher makes her and William partner up instead. “Dumb Bill” is annoying to her and she doesn’t even understand why he’s in the class since he never seems to do any work, and would rather flirt with anything that moves. After working together a few times she realizes that “Dumb Bill” for one isn’t so dumb, and he may actually be nice. “Brie”, “Gabe”, and “Elle” remind her that he is just a flirt and he’s only acting for her like he does with everyone else. One day when they are working on their project, a group of people come in lead by a man named Seekem Soulless. He tries to attack William and Gabrielle. William fights him off but Gabrielle gets hit by some sort of magical energy knocking her out. She wakes up and after William pulls himself together after thinking she died, he tells her that the group who attacked them were wizards and he himself is one too. William and Seekem have a dark past and he will stop at nothing till William joins him. If he won’t, Seekem will stop at nothing to destroy everything and everyone William cares about. They team up and try to figure out a way to stop him and not only does Gabrielle learn that she is immune to magic but that William may actually care for her and like her. Even worse, she may actually be falling for him too. Both Gabrielle and William change so much within the story. Gabrielle never thinking that love is possible for her and William slowly realizing he’s falling in love with a human even though the repercussions of that love could end up disastrous. With the help of magic, Gabrielle also learns a lot more about her past and the people she trusts may have some of the biggest secrets that can change Gabrielle’s life forever.
It was interesting to see how Gabrielle’s “personalities” worked off each other. Trying to keep a straight head without losing focus on some guy. The story was very interesting and I haven’t really read a story like this before. There were a couple grammatical errors that I noticed but nothing bad.

love it
One of the best recent developments in the rapidly changing publishing industry has been the emergence of Young Adult (YA) Fiction as a compelling and successful genre. Now a new title may be added to the list of worthwhile YA reads The Hekapolis Trilogy; Hypothesis by Ana Bastow.

Hypothesis is a fantasy novel, with elements reminiscent of both HP and Twilight. Magic and romance combine in a psychologically complex tale that is grounded in the reality of today's sexual marketplace, i.e. hookup culture.

Gabrielle Bridge is a college sophomore who's already beating the odds. With no father on the scene and a mother who's usually drunk, Gabrielle is nonetheless brainy and focused. She's an aspiring scientist who dreams of winning the Nobel Prize in physics one day. She is a virgin surrounded by sexually aggressive females who pressure her to seek empowerment in casual sex - especially her friend Tess and her own mother. (!!!!!)

One of the most compelling devices in the book is the development of various aspects of Gabrielle's psyche as characters unto themselves. Brie, the Superego, is logical and rational. She drives Gabrielle's achievement. Elle is the Femme Fatale Id, the dopamine addict who wants emotional drama and immediate physical gratification. Finally, Gabe is the voice of reason, the referee between Brie and Elle who considers both sides thoroughly before making any decisions. These three "voices" provide the reader a way of understanding and observing Gabrielle's most private thoughts.

Gabrielle wants to do it right - in a committed relationship with Toby, her intellectual peer and star student. She's made out with him once, and is eager to take it to the next level. In Gabrielle's eyes, Toby is perfect. She wants nothing more than to become his partner in their lab class so that they can explore science and love together.

Interfering with Gabrielle's plan is the partner assigned to her instead - pretty boy William, whom Gabrielle disparagingly refers to as Dumb Bill. William is a total player - which disgusts Gabrielle and marks him as a man of poor character in her book. Ms. Bastow is an astute observer of adolescent mating strategies, as evidenced in this scene

William "I was waiting for you to call me all day yesterday..."

Gabrielle "...Why would I do that?"

William "...I called you ugly yesterday. Most women would try to prove me wrong and win my affections after that."

Gabrielle "You're crazy, that doesn't sound like anyone I know..."

William "...Women like a guy who shows confidence and is not impressed by their assets."

This leads to a bet between the two, due to be settled at a party that night at the Alpha Omega house. In that scene William pulls off "Nice nails, are they real?" with a dumb bunny in a white miniskirt whose nasal shrieks and simpering giggles are the perfect response to his "game." Gabrielle flees the cringeworthy scene but soon stumbles into Toby kissing another girl.

Needless to say, Gabrielle has formed some prejudices in the manner of Elizabeth Bennet, and Ms. Bastow does a masterful job of portraying Gabrielle's evolving mindset as the guys' true characters are revealed.

Along the way the plot thickens considerably, with wizards Homo Sortiarius living amongst Homo Sapiens and a secret sanctuary hidden in shadow called Hekapolis. An evil sorcerer threatens to destroy the world, and the only hope of victory lies with the recruitment of a human who is immune to his spells. Gabrielle becomes involved with a scientist's curiosity and little regard for her own safety. The book's conclusion is very satisfying, though naturally there is an insurmountable obstacle that must be overcome in the second book...Let's hope that doesn't resemble 50 Shades of Grey!
Loved it!!!!! Gabrielle is refreshingly easy to relate to, and William leaves you just wanting to take a bite out of him- all over. All of this painted on an intriguing, fantastically mystical background that hints of a world you'll want nothing less than to dive into head-first. So many delightful nerd jokes it warms my heart! I wait on baited breathes for the second installment!
I Love This Book !!!! This Is Definitely One Of The Best Of It Paranormal Romance. I was so Exciting Reading This !!!! All the characters, the love and funny things, the action and affection that let me be part of all the story, It was like if I were walking close to them at the time the things happens during the story.(laugh when Isis was laughing and cry when she open her soul) Since the begin until the end let me discover the magician characters and the secrets side of magic in the person of Williams. I Would like to read more about them and Hekapolis!!!!!
...that I can't wait to read the next book! The cover is gorgeous, and I loved the entry way! You have to read and find out about the entry way. I love the names of the chapters, and I love that the characters are brainy. There are some really unique elements in the book, and I look forward to more from this author.
