This romance has some good things going for it. The curvy, sweet heroine and the alpha bad boy were a good match together. I liked that he was tatted, he even rocked a sexy man-bun, blond hair and green eyes, and I really liked that he was a mechanic. I thought some details about the h needed more attention, like her school life, but I did like her. She seemed mature at times (her own home, a business start-up, a car, etc.), but then she would act a little young to me. She's 20 and the hero's 34.I also enjoyed how bossy, possessive and jealous the H was. He even does that caveman speak, grunting and growling "Mine." I thought this had a kind of KA feel to it, especially with how the H acted and talked. Most sentences ended with "yeah?" I think the whole caveman thing is sexy, but I wanted more from him. We don't get his POV until the last 15% of the story, and once I had that, I wished maybe I'd had it earlier.
He's sexy and alpha, but he's also sweet and very gone over this girl. A bad boy who wants good love, he's actually the first to confess love. He did put his foot in his mouth, though, more than once, and by the end of the book, I'm thinking, dude, get it together. At the end, when things start coming to a head with the relationship and with a baddie on the loose, I wanted them both to be smarter.
For me, the pacing felt a bit off. I'm reading and wondering why I'm not finished yet. Not that I wasn't enjoying it, but I felt like I needed more to happen at certain times and less at other times. The I-love-you's come at about 50% in, and I tend to not like that when there are a lot more pages left to go. So, then it was drama, with his ex, her wannabe boyfriend, and some crazy stalker at large, and other smaller things going on.
The sex was erotic and hot, and this couple felt sweet and good together. So, even with some quibbles, I did enjoy this and am glad I tried this new author. She has a nice feel about her writing, and I'd read her again. She set up some sexy, interesting secondary characters, namely Kase and Rhys. On a side note, the editing's fairly tight, and there's also a sweet epilogue.

Hyde and Seek Hyde Series Book 1 edition by Layla Frost Contemporary Romance eBooks Reviews
Wow! What a debut novel. Hyde and Seek is book one in new author, Layla Frost’s, Hyde series, and she knocked it outta the park. With love, suspense, alpha male goodness, sassy heroines, humor, and intensity, this book pulls you in and keeps you in.
Summary
Piper Skye is all rock, all the time. She loves music, tats, and having a good time. Any of her closest friends would tell you that she’s the party all night girl. Or at least she would be, if it weren’t for her fledgling, yet becoming successful dessert business and school. If she had the energy or time, she’d embrace the wild because that’s just who she is. She’s not complaining, though. All of her hard, work with very little play, will pay off, if she stays focused on the plan. Of course, the universe doesn’t always play by man, or woman’s, rules, and unfortunately for Piper, her plan is about to encounter a very hard, very tall, intense, green-eyed derailment. As part of her plan, getting her work van upgraded is priority for optimal dessert delivery. Piper finds herself with front-row seats to the ultimate hot-guy parade with one helluva Grand Master at the popular custom garage. Seemingly unaffected by her librarian-esque, sweet baker appearance, Jake Hyde is still a whole lot to admire. He’s rough, gruff, in control, and wickedly hot. Having come to the conclusion that he doesn’t like her, Piper does what she does and moves on. But Jake is more affected than even he’d like to admit, and he’s not about to let the sweetest sweet walk out of his life after years of bitter. But neither could truly anticipate how intense and consuming their connection really was. Or how much their lives would change by just meeting. The changes are far from done, though. Love is chaos. It’s rebellion. It’s anarchy. And it never goes smoothly. Plans are in motion that Jake and Piper aren’t aware of. Do they have the faith and trust in each other to make it or will they crumble under the insecurities, vulnerabilities, and risks of having someone so important to their lives?
This book surprised me. A lot. Going in, I was expecting a biker romance with alpha males intent on getting their way from the sassy heroines who snared their hearts. We definitely got this, but so much more, too. Piper was a great heroine. I loved her rocker-girl personality, confidence, determination, beauty inside and out, and her ability to love deep. She was funny, sweet, and smart. I loved the chuckles and giggles I got from her antics (especially when she was drunk) or when she was talking to herself, both aloud and in her head. She was easy to like, and friendly. Jake was…**sigh**... absolutely amazing. He was intense! He was the ultimate alpha male, protective and possessive, but also had his insecurities and vulnerabilities that made him softer. I appreciated that he went after his dream and was a success, despite the path his parents wanted him to take. His obvious enthrallment with Piper was sweet and again, intense. I could almost feel his laser-like focus through the words. Together, Piper and Jake were explosive. Their passion was off the charts, and their intimate scenes way more than steamy. I think I did expect a little more of a definitive kink, though, after reading about Jake’s dirty thoughts. Still, they weren’t lacking. I loved supporting cast. I want to go back and get Ray and Edge’s story. I bet it was dynamite. I cannot wait for Kase and Harlow’s story. It was a dirty tease to whet our appetite like that at the end, though, Ms. Frost. Well played. Lol. I’d also love to to get Rhys and the rest of the Hyde boys’ stories. There has to be some wicked demons and secrets between the lot of them. Overall, it was a fantastic, entertaining read. I couldn't put it down. The suspense part of it was well written and believable. My only criticism is that I would have liked to see more of it tied in a bit earlier. Layla has done an amazing job with this debut, and I’m eager to see what more she has in store for us. <3
Audiobook Narrators – Lauren Sweet and Alex Kydd
Wow! These narrators totally nailed this book! They were exactly as I expected Piper and Jake to sound. Even when they were doing the opposite sex voices they were still very nicely done. There are a lot of characters included in this story and each one had their own unique “voice”. Once I started listening I didn’t want to stop.
This book is everything I look for when I want a feel good romance with a strong heroine and an alpha hero. Piper isn’t a doormat to Jake’s controlling ways and I loved how they were able to communicate their way through their arguments. Theirs’s isn’t a rose colored glasses story but one filled with a gritty rawness that highlights each character’s individual strengths. The chemistry between Piper and Jake is off the charts scorching. Secondary characters are to die for and I swear this author needs to pick up the pace and give us more!
I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a biker hero (this isn’t a motorcycle club story), a sassy, smart heroine, and a parade of hotness to round it all out.
